DATS – Digital Adherence Tracking System

The Digital Adherence Tracking System (DATS) is a mobile-based innovation developed by LEPRA Society in collaboration with Social Bytes to strengthen treatment adherence and continuity of care for people affected by leprosy and lymphatic filariasis (LF). Implemented across Eleven high-burden states in India, DATS supports frontline health workers and programme managers by enabling real-time monitoring, improved service documentation, and data-driven decision-making, especially in low-resource and remote settings

  • Real-time tracking of Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) adherence for leprosy patients
  • Digital recording of Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP) services
  • Capture of Disability Prevention and Medical Rehabilitation (DPMR) activities, including:
    a) Ulcer care
    b) Physiotherapy services
    c) Lymphedema management
    d) Provision of customized protective footwear
  • Android-based application with offline functionality for use in low-connectivity areas
  • Interactive dashboards for programme monitoring and performance review
  • Digital service logs and patient education tools to support frontline workers
  • Early results indicate improved treatment compliance, enhanced service documentation, and increased data-driven decision-making.
  • Future upgrades, including a multilingual interface, aim to expand accessibility and strengthen its impact on public health outcomes in underserved communities.

DLS – Digital Learning System

The Digital Learning System (DLS) is a mobile-based training application developed by LEPRA Society in partnership with Hope Rises International and the Telangana State NLEP Office to strengthen digital skills and programme capacity among healthcare workers involved in leprosy services. Developed as part of Data Strengthening Project, DLS supports continuous, role-based learning to improve leprosy case detection, data quality, and programme monitoring under the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP).

  • Role-based digital training modules for:
    a) Basics of leprosy
    b) Data entry on NIKUSTH 2.0
    c) Preparation of Monthly Progress Reports (MPRs)
  • Designed for General Health Staff, Data Entry Operators, and Programme Managers
  • Optimized for Android devices and equipped with certification, and performance tracking, DLS ensures accessible.
  • Supports continuous and refresher training without disrupting field work
  • Since its launch in November 2024, the app has trained over 150 staff and is on track to reach 800 personnel by mid-2025.
  • Scalable and replicable model for roll-out in other states

DIMPLE – Digital Measurement for Paduka (Footwear) for Persons Affected by Leprosy

DIMPLE (Digital Measurement for Paduka) is a technology-driven initiative by LEPRA Society to improve access to protective footwear for persons affected by leprosy. Building on over 30 years of experience in providing Microcellular Rubber (MCR) footwear through manual measurements at Referral Centres, DIMPLE was launched to overcome challenges related to distance, scalability, and record-keeping—especially for people in remote areas. The initiative uses mobile technology to digitally capture foot measurements and transmit them for accurate, remote footwear fabrication.

  • Launched as a pilot in August 2023 in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
  • Uses a mobile-based digital tool (Kobo Toolbox app) ,Enables technicians to:
    a) Record demographic details
    b) Capture foot images and measurements
    c) Transmit data digitally to Referral Centres
  • Supports remote fabrication of customized MCR footwear
  • App available in English, Hindi, and Telugu
  • Improved efficiency, accuracy, and outreach compared to manual methods
  • 561+ pairs of MCR footwear provided through DIMPLE by December 2024
  • Reduces the need for repeated travel by patients to Referral Centres

Future Plans

  • Integration of AI-based features for self-capture of foot measurements
  • Increased patient independence and self-reliance
  • Expansion to reach more leprosy-affected communities in underserved areas
