DISPELL

Disability Prevention & Empowerment of Leprosy and Lymphatic Filariasis Patients

People affected by leprosy and lymphatic filariasis (LF) often face long-term disabilities, repeated medical complications, and social exclusion if timely care and rehabilitation are not available.

To address these challenges, LEPRA Society launched the DISPELL initiative in 2024, with support from Mankind Pharma Ltd. under its CSR programme. DISPELL focuses on disability prevention, quality medical care, and social empowerment for people affected by leprosy and LF.

Where We Work

The project is implemented across Eight states: Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand.

What We Do

  • Run 10 Comprehensive Disability Care Centres (CDCCs) for specialised leprosy and LF care
  • Provide treatment for ulcers, neuritis, lepra reactions, and other disabilities
  • Supply customised protective footwear and self-care kits to prevent complications
  • Train healthcare workers and frontline staff on disability prevention and management
  • Conduct Active case detection, community awareness and IEC campaigns, including mobile outreach vans
  • Link affected persons to government welfare schemes
  • Organise legal rights awareness sessions to promote dignity and inclusion
