Social Inclusion and Inclusive Education

With support from Sightsavers India, LEPRA Society is implementing a Disability – Social Inclusion and Inclusive Education Project in Mandla district, Madhya Pradesh, since October 2022.

The project aims to enhance social inclusion and promote inclusive education for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), with a special focus on Children with Visual Impairments (CVIs). Implemented across all nine blocks, the initiative adopts a rights-based approach to improve access to social security, livelihoods, and inclusive learning opportunities.

What We Do

Identify and support Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) through community-based outreach
Facilitate linkages to social welfare schemes and livelihood opportunities
Promote inclusive education for Children with Visual Impairments (CVIs) through:
a) Assistive technologies
b) Home-based and school-based learning support
c) Teacher training and capacity building
Strengthen Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to enhance economic inclusion
Sensitize Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members to promote inclusive local governance

Impact & Outcomes

since October 2022., Over 10,500 PwDs identified across the district
More than 2,400 linked to welfare schemes and employment opportunities
180 Children with Visual Impairments (5–18 years) supported through inclusive education interventions
Improved community awareness and strengthened systems for inclusive education and social inclusion
