UPLIFT

Unlocking the Potential of Leprosy & NTD affected people, to pursue Inclusive, Fulfilling and Transformational lives, through a harmonized Community Based Group model

The UPLIFT Project, established in 2023, is a multi-country initiative led by LEPRA Society (India) in collaboration with Lepra Bangladesh, GLRA, and Lepra UK., the project aims to develop a standardised and scalable Community-Based Group (CBG) model to support people affected by leprosy and other disabling neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Through a tri-country research approach, UPLIFT seeks to generates global evidence for integrated, person-centred NTD care, contributing to health system strengthening and improved quality of life for marginalised populations affected by NTDs.

What We Do

UPLIFT co-develops a harmonized framework aligned with ILEP’s five strategic pillars while adapting to local contexts

  • Formation of Community-Based Groups (CBGs) for people affected by leprosy and NTDs
  • Peer-led self-care and mutual support to manage disability and improve well-being
  • Community-based mental health and psychosocial support delivered by trained peer counsellors
  • Social inclusion activities to reduce stigma and discrimination
  • Livelihood strengthening support to improve economic independence

  • 31 Community-Based Groups established in Jamui district
  • Peer counsellors trained to deliver mental health and psychosocial support
  • Improved access to self-care, emotional support, and community participation
