People affected by the neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) like leprosy and lymphatic filariasis (LF) face multiple challenges, including worsening physical impairments, limited functional ability due to inadequate disability prevention and rehabilitation services, and social and economic marginalisation.
With the support of LEPRA UK, LEPRA Society has been addressing these challenges since 2008 through its Neglected Tropical Disease Resource Units (NTDRUs), reaching people across 143 districts in 11 states. The programme focuses on early diagnosis, integrated care, and long-term rehabilitation for individuals affected by leprosy and LF.
Embedded within government health systems, NTDRUs operate through a tiered network of care including 26 satellite clinics, 24 secondary referral centres, and 3 tertiary centres ensuring seamless continuity of care from community outreach to advanced treatment.
